Pool fire is the liquid combustion form caused by flammable liquid leakage. The demand of the fuel in our daily life and production increases by the development of science and technology. The frequency of fire accidents is getting higher and higher in the process of chemical industry and transport, causing significant economic losses and casualties.Therefore, research on fire plume behavior of pool fuel is significant to understand the occurrence and development of such accidents.The combustion of oil pool in open space is greatly influenced by the environmental factors, so the research on the influence range and factors of the open pool fire are very important .The pool fire behavior of aviation fuel ,including flame height, flame angle,temperature and radiation flux are significantly different from the pool fire without wind.This dissertation analysis investigates the characteristics of environment and radiation flux under windy condition by numerical simulation. Then carry out the research on heat radiation characteristics of the pool fire. Subsequently ,through investigating the flame height and flame angle of pool fire under windy conditions, Image processing technology based on origin program is built to analyze the flame configuration including flame height and flame angle under wind with different speeds. The detail research contents are as follows:Firstly, numerical simulation of pool fire in open space has been carried out by the FDS, then compares the calculated values of mass burning rate, flame height and the radiation with the experimental dates.Secondly, study on the law of variation of environment temperature and radiation flux under cross-wind with different speeds. The results show that the environment temperature and radiation heat flux decreases with the wind speeds increasing in the weather side,while the temperature and radiation heat flux received by leeward objects increase and then decrease with the wind speeds increasing. The result shows that there is a critical speed of wind .When wind speeds increases within the critical value, the characteristics of the pool fire changes with the wind speeds. While wind speeds exceed this value, the flame configuration remains steady . The analysis shows that the critical value is related to the size of the pool.Finally, based on the theoretical analysis and the simulation data, semi-empirical models are developed to predict the flame height and flame angle under wind condition, and the accuracy of the model in predicting pool fire is verified.
