With the gradual exhaustion of the onshore and offshore oil and gas resource, the South China Sea exploitation of deepwater oil and gas has become the general trend of industrial developments, which also means that the drilling platforms have to overcome the technical problem of working in deep water. The tension leg platform as a new deepwater platform comes into being, and it has many advantages which are very suitable for the South China Sea,such as the good motion performance, stable production operation and strong ability to resist bad environment, thus TLP has become an exploitation hotspot of deepwater oil and gas in the South China Sea now.At present, the research in the field of tension leg platform in the South China Sea is still in the preliminary stage, due to particular environment of the South China Sea which should be considered for the design and manufacture of tension leg platform. Therefore, the South China Sea is the research environment in the paper and we can explore the related regularity for the development by the research of hydrodynamic force, and it provides a valuable reference for the construction and use of tension leg platform.Based on the theory of three-dimensional potential flow and software of AQWA,the research of in-service TLP includes the frequency-domain analysis,time-domain analysis and the sensitivity analysis of mooring. In the frequency-domain analysis, the calculation mainly involves additional mass, damping,RAO,the first-order wave force and the second-order wave force. The time-domain analysis includes the motion response, the tension and the angular displacement response of TLP tendon. And the sensitivity analysis of mooring has the three most influential factors, including pretension, depth and the numbers of tendons. Finally, the paper obtained some reliable conclusions by referring to the relevant codes of construction.
