To get the penetration depth precisely,on-board accelerometers are used in penetration deceleration measurement. The motion of projectile can be calculated through the single and double integration of the original deceleration. But,there is a big difference between the calculated penetration depth and real penetration depth. In order to find the reason of it,the projectile structure response under dynamic loading must be studied. This paper put forward a new type of projectile, which is sectional. And the target in this ammunition-target system is made of brown paper. In this thesis, the process of projectile penetrating paper targets has been simulated.Experimental study and theoretical analysis were also used. The projectile structure response models during the shooting and penetrating process were built. The velocity obtained by projectile under different impact loadings, and the strain and acceleration of projectile at different locations during the shooting and penetrating process, have been studied. It provides the suggestion of accelerator's installation site. The ballistic limit velocity is based on Recht-Ipson formula that can deal with residual versus initial velocities. The methods of how to deal with test data have been summarized. The acceleration under impact loading can get rigid body acceleration through low pass filtering. The research findings are beneficial to build the method for decoupling the acceleration signals into rigid body accelerations and structural response induced deceleration signals.
