Recent years Wind Turbines(WT)have been promoted for more wide use.The growing market is not only opportunity but also challenges for WT design and manufacture enterprises.WT are operated in awful natural environments with dynamic loads,high failure rate and unlikeable stops which must be repaired with high difficulties and costs.Most researches aim to improve service reliability by focusing on how to improve repair after failure has appeared,not thoroughly analysis and improve design availability by focusing on design phase.This research aims to evaluate and improve availability deign for WT,change Made in China to Design in China,therefore it is very worthy and important to do research on analysis and improvement of wind turbine availability design risk.Main problems such as lacking thorough design availability requirements analysis,not considering design reliability and serviceability at the same time with functionality design,often have happened during design phase.Solution provided by this research is to develop a set of design risk analysis methodologies and criterion,as well as design improvement ways,create new ways to build optimized WT design availability models.This research also analyzed the advantage and weak points of Taguchi Method,introduced a new practical method which is to consider the design risk analysis model then transfer optimizable single or multiple non-directly measureable factors into directly measureable factors sequenced by feasibility,then optimize the selected factors and validate design,make the optimization target more clearly,fully improve design availability with the limitation of manufacturability.This research were already implemented in a company which has No.1 market share in WT business to analyze main gearbox of WT.Improvements on design quality with many benefits both in economic and social aspects were achieved afterwards.
