The wholesale market in China started earlier. It sets logistics, business flow and information flow in one as the intermediate links in the field of commodity circulation. It is an important part of commodity economy. However, the construction of domestic wholesale markets has been disorder, spontaneous and scattered. And in the urban planning design and research areas, there is also a prevalence phenomenon of " attaches great importance to retail but ignores wholesale" and there is few targeted theoretical study about market-layout.In recent years, the government of Zhengzhou which is a commercial city with a long history promotes the transition of the wholesale market. Therefore the systematic research on spatial distribution and development transition of the wholesale market in Zhengzhou has a certain theoretical and practical value. This paper first combs the relevant theories and research results on the layout of the wholesale market at home and abroad. On this basis, according to the classification principle of commodity attribute, the existing wholesale markets in Zhengzhou can be divided into the wholesale market of daily consumer goods, the wholesale market of the means of production, the wholesale market of agricultural and sideline products and other types of wholesale markets.According to relevant data and field research, this paper expounds the development characteristics of the existing wholesale markets in Zhengzhou from the aspects of the overall scale, the radiation range, the market type and the spatial distribution. The paper points out the problems in the material space environment and the management. Then, the paper analyzes the main influencing factors of the wholesale market development, namely transportation network, urban spatial structure, urban industrial conditions and modern warehouse logistics industry, expounds the overall development trend and the optimized path in the future. Finally the paper puts forward the corresponding optimization strategy for different types of the wholesale market from the spatial layout and the functional transformation. The paper will inspire the future construction of the wholesale market in Zhengzhou and provide references for the development of other cities' wholesale market in China. There are five chapters in the paper, which are divided into three sections:First part is the basic research, including chapter one and chapter two. This part analyzes the research background and significance of topic, confirms the content and methods, explains the basic definition and classification of the wholesale market, summarizes the domestic and international related theoretical basis and research results on the space layout of the wholesale market, introduces the history of wholesale markets in domestic and foreign and general rules of wholesale markets in location layout, space modes and influence factors, discusses the characteristics and the future trends of the wholesale market in China. The second part is the core research, including chapter three and chapter four. This part combs the development process of Zhengzhou wholesale market, analyzes the current industry development and spatial distribution characteristics according to the field research, finds out the existing problems. Then based on the previous research, this part analyzes four important factors influencing the development of Zhengzhou wholesale market, summarizes the future development trends and the optimization path, puts forward the corresponding strategys on the spatial layout and development transformation for different types of the wholesale market. The third part is the conclusion, including chapter five. This part summarizes the main conclusions and shortcomings of the full text, and proposes future research directions.
