In recent years, increasingly serious energy crisis and greenhouse effects motivate the utilization of renewable energy instead of fossil fuels for cleaner, more reliable and sustainable systems. As one of the most promising clean energy sources, fuel cells have the advantages of relatively high efficiency and almost zero emissions, especially in the applications to hybrid electric vehicles. In this thesis,we propose an adaptive control approach with fuzzy logic controller for the energy management of electric vehicles that are using fuel cell battery hybrid systems, which can satisfy the load power demand and absorb the regenerative braking energy effectively. Some innovative work has been done in this thesis, which is listed as follows:· Based on the characteristics of the fuel cell vehicle energy management,an adaptive controller is designed to distribute the power flow between the fuel cell and the battery and maintain the battery state of charge at a desirable level while satisfying the fuel cell dynamic constraints.Besides, the stability of the controller is proved according to the Lyapunov stability theory and the effectiveness of the adaptive controller is validated in simulations and experiments.· For guaranteeing the control performance,a fuzzy logic controller is designed to op-timize the control output by adjusting the values of parameters in the adaptive con-troller appropriately under different driving conditions including normal, regenerative, and overload conditions. Finally, simulation and experimental results validate the effec-tiveness of the proposed fuzzy logic controller.
