Plates of ducts stiffened with Flats,Tees and Angles are prone to the overall or local buckling under combined lateral pressure and axial loads.The actual engineering experience shows that the C-shape stiffeners in the Chinese Standards with wide flange promote the practical value as a result of superior cross-section properties and welding performance.Thin-walled structures with the steel C-shape stiffeners are also widely used in the power plant duct,bridge,ship industry and other fields.In this paper,based on the study of symmetrical and asymmetric cross-section stiffeners such as T-type,L-type and Bulb-head type,the stability and capacity of rectangular steel plate stiffened with channels are studied.First,complex buckling behaviors of the rectangular stiffened plate under the combined loads are studied,these includes the overall buckling of the rectangular stiffening plate,the local buckling of panels and the buckling of the channel stiffener.When the stiffened plates are subjected to the large eccentric compression,the effect of high web in stiffeners is obvious on the buckling stress of the stiffened plates with stiffeners tripping.This chapter provides the basis for the subsequent study of the buckling behavior and the failure of the rectangular plates with steel channels.Second,the bending-torsional buckling of rectangular plate with single channel stiffener is studied.For single stiffener in the effective width,the simplified physical model of combination steel channel and plate is established.It is assumed that the stiffening effect of the stiffeners is completely lost after the buckling.With the increase of the longitudinal compressive stress in the plate to the buckling stress,this constraint is attenuated to zero in the form of a parabola.Considering the effect of stiffener tripping on buckling behavior of the rectangular plate,the governing equations and approximate buckling stresses of the plates with single stiffener are obtained under the combination of face pressure and end axial compression.Finally,the stability of rectangular plates with multiple longitudinal stiffeners is studied.The FEA software of Abaqus is used to establish the model with multi-stiffeners under the combination of lateral pressure and axial compression load.The buckling behavior of the plates and the static post-buckling behavior considering the initial imperfections are analyzed.In the case of ensuring the end of stiffeners has not local buckling obviously,it is found that the yield zone in section reach a certain height of web when the plate has a large displacement to failure.It is recommended to take 1/2 height position in yielding section of stiffener web to build an evaluation for the ultimate capacity behavior of the stiffened plates by yielding at a consistent height in section of stiffener web.By controlling the displacement of the rectangular stiffener plate under the combined action of the lateral pressure and the axial loads,the serviceability of the stiffened plate could be ensured.
