Intersections are important hubs of urban road traffic network, which play significant roles in traffic network. The efficient operation of the whole traffic network depends on the unimpeded traffic of the intersections for motor vehicles and non-motor vehicles. However, the mixed traveling phenomenon of pedestrians and vehicles is extremely serious at urban intersesctions, especially in two-phase intersections.Due to the simple settings of the phase, the conflicts between vehicles from different directions and pedestrians are widespread. The conflicts hinder the normal operation of the road traffic, reduce the traffic capacity of intersections, increase delay of vehicles and pedestrians, and reduce the efficiency of the traffic network. To solve these problems, the mixed traffic flow of pedestrians and vehicles at two-phase intersections is studied in this paper, which will be useful to understand the complex characteristics of pedestrians and vehicles at urban intersections, and has a great significance to the efficient operation of urban road network. The main research work of this paper are summarized as follows:(1)On the basis of cellular automaton,a left-straight vehicle conflict model with one conflict point is proposed by introducing the rules of left-straight vehicle interference.Based on the model established above,a more practical left-straight conflict model with two conflict points is proposed by improving interference rules to make the trajectory of left-turn vehicles more realistic. The effects of vehicle arrival rate on vehicle volume or travel time are simulated by MATLAB.The simulaiton results show that the vehicle volume and travel time of the model with two conflict points are both improved. Then according to the delay formula of American HCM2000 model, analytical delay values are calculated. The values of HCM2000 model are then compared with the results of the simulation model to get conclusions.(2)On the basis of the left-straight vehicle conflict model with two conflict points, the pedestrians are taken into consideration.Pedestrian-vehicle interference model at two-phase intersection is proposed in this chapter. The Nasch model is used to simulate vehicles movement, and the lattice gas model is used to simulate pedestrians movement.Pedestrian-vehicles interference rules are introduced to combine the vehicle model with the pedestrian model. With the simulation of MATLAB,the effects of the arrival rate on vehicle volume or vehicle travel time, and the spatiotemporal diagrams of vehicles under the interference of pedestrians are analyzed and discussed.(3)The pedestrian-vehicle interference model is verified with the measured data. One of the intersections in Beijing is taken as an example to make videos and obtain the effective data.Parameters of the model are calibrated with the field data. The delay values of turning vehicles are calculated after simulation, which are compared with the measured delay of vehicles. The results show that the simulation data is basically identical with the real data, which proves the high accuracy and reliability of the proposed model.
