Research On The Landscape Artistic Design Of Enclosing Wall In Changsha

With the rapid development of urban construction, as demarcation and security facilities, walls are the carrier of culture which also presents the city image. How to build the city wall landscape is a brand new job that has been put in front of our designers. The author adopted a research method of combining literature review and field analysis in order to conduct a survey on the design of urban wall landscape,the main findings are as follows:1. Through the research on the origins and culture of the walls which help us get a clear connotation of city walls. It puts forward an idea that walls are not just simply set borders or enclose space,it should become the carrier of culture which has a positive impact on urban regional characteristics.2. An investigation was carried out on 20 different places in Changsha city from their function, scale, material, color and partiality. Some following problems are found as follows:lack of coordinated interaction between internal and external environment, single function, lack of change and innovation, fail to reflect the geographical and cultural characteristics and so on.3. The paper proposes a theory and method of landscape design of city walls and puts forward that the design of city walls landscape should follow the following principles which are functional principle, artistic principle, pluralism principle, regional principle and ecological principle; in accordance with the priorities the author proposed two different design thinking which are hard walls and soft walls. Hard walls are demonstrated from four aspects which are material, size, structure and facade. The author analyzes and elaborates according to infiltration and layers, contrast and unity, color and texture, repetition and reproduction, creating combined space. Soft walls put forward two methods which are based on plant and urban furniture mainly from the perspective of ecology and economic. The method that based on plant is the walls with hedges and the walls with twines.4. The practical case study took The library of the Hunan province, Residential areas and nursery school in Changsha and student dormitory in Hunan Agricultural University for example, combined with proposed theories and methods of city walls landscape artistic design and did the design and transformation separately.The landscape of the city walls is a beautiful scene within the city, it should have received more attention in urban public space. The author hopes that this article can provide new perspectives and viewpoints in related areas and contribute some efforts towards these beautiful walls in the context of a new era.
