In wind resistant design for high-rise buildings, the along-wind induced response is generally considered as one of the dominate factors, corresponding detailed provisions have been listed in various country codes. Particularly, as the relatively more intuitive wind-induced response, displacement response is stipulated in almost all wind load codes as well as in wind-resistant design for high-rise buildings. However, due to the diversities of different methods, calculation results present certain differences. This paper presents a detailed comparison among four methods in three national codes (China, America and Canada) of along-wind displacement response calculation for high-rise buildings. The comparison is presented between wind tunnel tests and numerical calculation on a certain high-rise building. The main content is outlined as follows:1. The dynamic response analysis methods of high-rise buildings as well as its domestic and abroad development:The general development of high-rise buildings is summarized. Wind-induced hazards on high-rise buildings are briefly reviewed. The significance of along-wind dynamic response analysis on high-rise buildings can be seen and the main research purpose of this paper is proposed.2. Comparison on main parameters among the wind load codes of China, America and Canada is detailed introduced, with emphasis on wind-induced vibration coefficient and gust effect factor. And four calculation methods in above codes of along-wind displacement response on high-rise buildings are elaborated, which is the foundation to compute the along-wind displacement response of high-rise buildings.3. A representative high-rise building is taken as a numerical example to calculate its maximum displacement response by different methods in codes of China, America and Canada. A wind tunnel test is carried out to make comparative analysis with numerical calculation results, and some beneficial results are obtained.Lastly, the prospect of future studv is proposed after summary of the whole paper.
