In the 1990 s, the term, "red tourism" has begun to enter the life of our people, with the sustained and rapid development of tourism industry in China, the "red tourism" has a wide spread social impact and broad market demand for tourism and economic growth since the new century. Developing the red tourism resources is of great significance for carrying forward the revolutionary tradition, cultivating the national spirit, strengthening patriotism education, promoting coordinated economic and social development of the old revolutionary base areas. However, due to historical reasons and the needs for the revolutionary struggle in those years, the vast majority of red tourism resources in China are distributed in some small cities or some remote mountainous areas whose natural economy condition is relatively backward. This leads to some problems of protection of a large number of precious red cultural heritage, which directly affects the development of red tourism in our country. In addition, although all levels of government in support of the development of red tourism, a lot of red tourism scenic areas cannot form a complete system of planning and management because of unreasonable development and excessive irrational chaotic construction. At the same time, red tourist scenic areas lacking in their own distinctive landscape cannot meet the needs for tourists, to some extent hinder the development of red tourism. It is a hot issue of planning, development and design in today's red tourism spots with the problem of how to dig deeper into the cultural implications of "red tourism" and enrich the content of red tourism products to attract and retain visitors and also make the red path of sustainable development of tourism. This paper analyzes the current status of the development of some red tourism scenic areas, summarizes the existing problems, intends to improve the current problems existing in the development of red tourism landscape design by using some principles and methods of red cultural heritage protection and red landscape planning design.
