With the development of subway construction in our country, the application of transfer subway station is more and more important.Overlapping transfer stations are convenient and quick for passages.Compared with channel transfer station, this kind of transfer can save a lot of passage time. This kind of convenient transfer form needs complicated underground structure. Therefore, the study on the failure mode and seismic response analysis of the overlapping transfer station has great significance and engineering application value. This paper take the overlapping T-shaped transfer station structures as the research background, considering the soil-structure interaction and the initial stress field, based on the finite element software ABAQUS,simplify the overlapping transfer structure into a plane strain problem. In the analysis, the viscoelastic artificial boundaries are applied to simulate the wave radiation effect and to input horizontal seismic waves in the form of equivalent load. The concrete damaged plasticity model is used for the station structure where the nonlinear characteristics of concrete under cyclic loading is described by the damage factors. The structure’s seismic response and crack development trend including the initial stress field in the soil-structure system, have been investigated. The effects of seismic waves and the stratum properties of soil on the cracking development trend of the overlapping transfer structure under seismic action are compared and analyzed in detail. The possible failure modes of the structure during the actions of two seismic records,El Centro and Kobe, two different strata types, uniform and non-uniform,have been obtained.Furthermore, the seismic response characteristics of the independent 3-stories and 2-stories parts in the T-shaped station structure are analyzed and compared with the integrated structure. The results show that the seismic response of the two cases has significant difference. Therefore, the interaction within the subway structure needs to be considered in design.
