Steel plate shear walls with beam-only-connected web plates(BOC-SPSWs)can be easily understood that the embedded steel plate connected with the frame beam only.Compared to a fully-connected SPSW,connecting the web plates to the beams only has been proposed as a means of preventing the frame columns' early failure from reducing the additional bending moment and axial force.It is a hard work when the plates are connected with composite columns,like concrete filled steel tubes column,steel reinforced concrete column,etc.But it can be easily solved by connecting the web plates to the beams only.In addition,it is more convenient to use the structure on the buildings to against earthquakes damage.In this paper,the design method based on the strength has been proposed,then finite verified by the designed examples firstly.Nine BOC-SPSW models with different story levels and bay widths are designed and finite pushover analyzed by the finite element software ABAQUS,the influence of floor numbers and bay widths on the performance of the structure is studied.Finally,the performance of a steel frame-steel plate shear wall structure is studied under frequent earthquake,design earthquake and rare earthquake.The above results show that with the same floor number,the smaller of bay width,the thicker of the infill plate,the bigger of the member size;in the end,the ultimate capacity load is become bigger and the stiffness decreased more slowly,the base shear relatively decreased and axial force of frame column increased because of the shear capacity of the plate is not fully used;with floor number increase and bay width decrease,the effect of bend is more obviously,resulting in the upper plates is not easy to yield,so the structure is not economic enough.The stiffness of the structure can be significantly improved and the deformation can be significantly reduced when the steel plates added to the frame.The components of the well designed steel frame-steel plate shear wall structure are kept elastic under frequent earthquake;the plate yield and frame beams and columns are kept elastic under design earthquake;under rare earthquake,the plate yield and frame beams end and columns base entered plastic,finally meet the performance objectives.
