The development of China urban lighting has gone more than 20 years, which result in the progressing of urban lighting planning from prototype to mature of late years. Now,urban lighting has become an important urban subject planning.Urban lighting planning must be based on scientific cognition, and establish a good relationship with the integrative development of the city.Scientific formulation and actualization of urban lighting planning are crucial for directing the building of urban lighting engineering, optimizing the form of urban night space and improving the cityscape. In this article, the origin, development, research methods and basic parameters of urban lighting were firstly introduced. So the basic needs of how to choose light source scientifically can meet the urban lighting. Then, took Ningguo urban lighting planning as an example, the satisfaction of urban lighting at present stage of Ningguo citizen was studied. And basic status analysis of more 40 main roads,sub-roads,segmental branches and main spatial nodes were conducted by numerical simulation. In addition, general planning and layout of urban lighting were designed based on urban lighting standards, including layout ideas, image positioning, layout structure and functional lighting planning.By using space-syntax theory, combined with the current situation of Ningguo city, the four vertical roads of cities connect the six horizontal roads of cities, the three rivers are around the three mountains, the six functional areas of cities assemble multiple node spaces.was proposed. At last, recommendations of planning and implement were elaborated and theoretical basises were offered.Consequently, the system of urban lighting planning of Ningguo was optimized.
