Abstract/Summary:
Vapor core pump(VCP) is a fuel pump developed from centrifugal pump. It has a wide range of flow regulation rate. Besides, VCP can meet the fuel demands of future aero-engines with less fuel temperature rising and weight-power ratio. VCP has been used in many high-performance engines abroad. However, it lacks comprehensive understanding of delivery performances and its flow mechanism at home, which dramatically affects the manufacture and applications of the pump.The two-phase numerical simulation of VCP in this thesis was based on RNG k-? turbulence model and Schnerr-Sauer cavitation model. Structured grids of all flow regions were established by multi-block in respect of the complex geometrical structure of the radial straight blades and volute. Four typical vapor core configurations were obtained basing on numerical simulation under different throttle valve openings. What’s more, delivery properties versus inlet/outlet pressure and the pulsation characteristics of flow rate under different vapor core configurations were studied. Dynamic response of the flow rate to step of outlet pressure was monitored to discuss the influence of vapor core on dynamic regulation performance. To research the regulation ratio of flow rate, head and efficiency characteristics of prototype pump, the fuel delivery performance was tested under full-range conditions. The results show that, characteristics and regulation ratio of flow rate mainly depend on geometrical profile of the throttle valve. Vapor core has few influence on the amplitude of flow rate pulsation, and VCP can supply fuel stably under different configurations of the vapor core. The head obviously improves as the increase in the pump speed, but the pump efficiency becomes lower. The head characteristic obtained by numerical simulation is consistent with the test results. Numerical and experimental study in this thesis has great significance in the improvement of VCP design.
