The new configuration aircraft of the quarter tilt-rotor designed in this paper combines multi-rotor and fixed-wing aircraft. The new aircraft is a unique and innovative aircraft, which makes full use of mature and stable control technology in multi-rotor, and integrates characteristics of multi-rotor's VTOL / hover and forward flight in high speed of the fixed-wing, so it can be used in the field of military and civilian to complete a series of complex tasks. This article firstly summarized the advantages and disadvantages from development of multi-rotor and the traditional tilt-rotor aircraft, following the lists of candidate configurations according to requests, and made decision in different aspects.Secondly, the overall parameters were designed to make choice of suitable power system after determining the configuration. Then it designed the aerodynamic layout, including modes of quarter-rotor, fixed-wing and transition process of tilting, and finished parameters designing of the main components, the aerodynamic center and the reference position of center of gravity, and the three view drawing.Thirdly, it designed structure of components, then analyzed the structural characteristic and checked stress intensity of the wing by Patran / Nastran, and analyzed aerodynamic characteristics of the new configuration aircraft in different modes by Fluent, especially the interference among propeller/wing/fuselage, and the performance of the aircraft was also calculated by theoretical derivation and data. Finally the prototype was assembled, and flight test was taken after adjustment, from which the flight principle of this aircraft is reasonably practicable. It made the foundation for larger and more useful one in military and civilian field later.
