As an elemental composition of automobile, Alternator offers remarkable services- not only charges up all the electrical equipments which include the ignition coil, but also the onboard battery for incidental need. To an automobile, a durable alternator counts.Taking the testing system for automotive alternator as a study subject, this article tends to analyze rotate drive unit, temperature control unit, program load, Signal conditioning box, data acquisition unit and measure-control program. Using this system, durability and electrical characteristics of automotive alternator can be tested easily and accurately. Measure process is that make under unit test into every state by driving and controlling. Then start data-acquisition.Determine the performance of the alternator by data processing and analysis. The system automatically save data, and generate reports after completion.The design adopt virtual instrument technology in designing the system, Graphic language,Lab VIEW is applied in writing measure-control program. It makes use of many functions Lab VIEW supply, including Data acquisition, control of serials port, data appear, data store etc.And adopt soft regular in writing program of controlling instrument VISA.Using this system, two separate automobile alternators can be high-speed vehicle impact and high temperature durability test and electrical performance test and other tests at the same time, and the alternator speed measurement error is within 1%, the control error is within 2%,voltage and current measurement errors were within 0.5% and 0.1%, the system can meet the requirements of national and industry. The design is a high efficiency and practical test system.
