Due to the fierce competition in the market and customer demand for more and more personalized products, the emerging production mode- Product configuration is considered to be one of the most competitive design modes in response to the customer's individual needs. In order to solve the existing product configuration design lack of consideration for product structure design, automated assembly of models, security check for structural parts, product feasibility report, engineering drawing, BOM tables and other product design issues involved in the whole process of product design, a method of product configuration design based on configurable template is proposed, that is, through reviewing and summarizing the existing product design pattern, the design knowledge, the design features of the designer and the experiential design method involved in the whole process of product design is transformed to knowledge template. A variety of products can be obtained by parameter driven template. Template technology introduced into the whole process of product configuration design can achieve the reuse of design knowledge, improve product design efficiency and design quality.A study of the modular design of the configurable product, the management of product configuration knowledge, the establishment of product structure tree, the automated assembly of models based on product structure configuration template, the synchronized checking based on parameter calibration template and the parameter transfer between templates is presented in this paper. The construction method of product structure configuration template, parameter calibration template, calculation report template, 2D engineering drawing template and BOM template is also explained in detail in this paper. The template storage, expression and maintenance of the product design knowledge are realized effectively. The product structure design, automated assembly of models, security check for structural parts, product feasibility report, engineering drawing, BOM tables involved in the product design process is also solved availably.Combined with the specific project of enterprises, the theory and method of product configuration design based on configurable template is applied in the sling design system. The product structure design, automated assembly of models, security check for structural parts, product feasibility report, engineering drawing, BOM tables and other product design issues involved in the whole process of sling product design is completed. The automated design of sling product from structure design to the output of technical document is realized, the design cycle of sling product is also greatly reduced. The feasibility and effectiveness of this method is validated.
