With the continuous development of aviation technology, the types of aviation technical document are becoming more and more and information contained in them are becoming more and more complex. Traditional papery technical document has big defects. In recent years, IETM(Interactive Electronic Technical Manual) technology is developing rapidly. The application of electronic technical publications instead of the papery technical documents gets the shortcomings of traditional technical documentation greatly improved. Moreover, the application of IETM technology proves that information technology can be used to reduce the cost of equipment operations and technical support and thereby reduce operating costs throughout the life cycle of devices. Because foreign core technology about IETM is kept confidential, the application of IETM technology in our country, especially the application in the field of civil aviation, is still very backward. In foreign countries, the S1000 D standards have been applied to the IETM technology documents of civil aircraft like A380. In contrast, the application of S1000 D standards in preparing technical documents is still in the exploratory stage in the civil aviation field of our country.After examining the domestic and abroad development of electronic technical documentation in recent years and introducing the S1000 D standard which is the most widely applied standard in IETM, this paper uses the markup elements of S1000 D to define data and develops a management platform which has the basic functions of CSDB(Common Source Data Base). The main work and innovation of this work are as follows:(1) Introducing S1000 D standard in details from the standard structure and work flow after the introduction of background, status, purpose and meaning of this research;(2) Introducing the method of information description based on markup elements and S1000 D standard, and then investigating the correspondence relationship between maintenance program and markup elements defined by S1000 D standard.(3) Investigating IETM technology-related knowledge and pointing out the top-level planning as the most important item of creating IETM.(4) Creating a data module management platform for data management after researching a technique of creating data module.This work provides a reference for establishing IETM technical documents based on the S1000 D in Chinese aviation field in various aspects like data modules developing and data management. It will promote the development of IETM technology in China.
