MOA, which is the abbreviation for "Metal Oxide Arrester", is an important overvoltage protection device for power systems. However, there is also a possibility that MOA broke down because of damp, aging, or another situation. If a broken MOA be affected by overvoltage, maybe the MOA will in a thermal runaway or even explosion condition,.this will affect the safe operation of the power system. So it is very important to monitor MOA, make sure that stuff can master the condition of the MOA at the first time. This paper, which is in response to the problems, research and design a online monitoring system for the performance of Metal Oxide Arrester, this system can be used to find safety problems of MOA and it can also make sure power system under its protection.This paper mainly research how to design and achieve the monitoring system for the performance of Metal Oxide Arrester. It introduces according to the methods and principles of online monitoring, the design of overall program, the hardware of the system and its supporting software, the design of the platform of online monitoring, and comprehensive realization. The main contents of each chapter are as follows:The first chapter introduces the background and meaning of the project, development in domestic and foreign, and describes the paper structure in detail. The second chapter mainly introduces the theory of online monitoring system of MOA's performance. The third chapter introduces the overall design of this monitoring system, and describes in detail for the selection of several key schemes. The forth chapter introduces the design of the hardware pf the online monitoring system, the system is divided into two parts, first part is signal acquisition device and the second is data transmission device. This chapter gives readers a specific analysis and a mature program of the hardware design. The fifth chapter introduces the design of the hardware's supporting software. The sixth chapter introduces the online monitoring platform of MOA's performance, which is the upper computer of the system. The platform includes three parts:database systems, data receiving program, online monitoring website. The last chapter summarizes this research, and probe the existing problems and prospect.
