The research work is aimed at the eminent term of ‘EV’, which instigates the emission-free, cost-effective and an adept channel of transportation. The experimental Electrical Vehicle is exploited to undertake handling tests based on vehicular modeling followed by system identification. As it happens to be customary now to interpret dynamics of a vehicle by means of mathematical modeling, merely because of factuality, this research work takes the available vehicle dynamics’ models to examine handling characteristics. In essence, a multi body model embodying 8 degrees of freedom namely longitudinal motion, lateral motion, yaw motion, body roll motion and rotational dynamics of four wheels is deployed. This model is considered suitable in fulfilling required features for handling maneuvers. In order to undergo certain analyses, the next phase in this aspect is the knowledge of vehicular parameters. The nominal values of which are acquired by direct measurements. The residual set of parameters are to be identified by experiments using either off-line or on-line methodologies. For that purpose, in this research work, optimization techniques are employed to identify unknown parameters of the vehicle required by nonlinear 8DOF model and Magic Formula tire model coefficients. Both models are subsequently validated against reference data acquired through different road tests and from CarSim respectively. The optimization schemes exercised here can be further recalled to identify unknown vehicle and Magic Formula parameters. Moreover, the validated nonlinear model is geared up to be utilized for studying handling dynamics under different simulation conditions for different vehicles to consequently contribute for application of active safety control methodologies.
