White light plays a very important role in human life and production activities. The white light source which is made of semiconductor laser has many advantages, such as small size,low power consumption, stability, long working life and so on. Therefore, the white light source based on the semiconductor laser is a new generation of solid-state lighting, and it is meeningful to research it.A new source of solid-state white illumination is studied using methods involving blue semiconductor lasers and yellow phosphor. In this paper, The excitation light source is a blue laser diode emitting at 447 nm, and the fluorescent powder is the YAG yellow phosphor. In order to improve the color of light source, the red phosphor is used in this paper.1.The effect of different concentration and thickness of the fluorescent to the laser white light source was studied. A good quality white source with a CCT of 4637 K and CRI of 71.6is obtained.2.The effect of different phosphor layer shapes on the color uniformity character of white light were studied. Results show that, when the phosphor layer is planner, the color temperature distribution of the white light source is very uneven. When the phosphor layer is dome-shaped, the color uniformity character of white light was improved. When the phosphor layer is plane-convex-shaped, the homogeneity of the white light source is the best.3.The relationship between red phosphor and color rendering index was researched aslo.By adding red phosphor, the color index of the light source is obviously improved. The color rendering index increased to 83.4 after red phosphors were added in the silicone.4.The influence of different driving current on the colorimetric characteristics of light source was analyzed. The shift of the CIE chromaticity coordinate, color temperature, and color rendering index with current are very slight and negligible. The CIE coordinate variation was ? yx???)005.0,005.0(,, which indicates that an excellent stability and a highly stable light source can be obtained by this way.5.An efficient packaging configuration consisting of a laser diode, a reflector cup, and a phosphor spatially separated from the LD was presented. Ray-tracing simulations show the beam angular of 20o for the white light source is achieved.
