Based on analyzing the deficiencies of current passenger boarding stair while combining the requirement of CA development at the same time, this essay carries out a design project for variable wheelbase passenger boarding stairs. This design project applies such variable wheelbase construction to the underpan of passenger boarding stairs. Other parts of the passenger boarding stairs also have been improved respectively to ensure higher security and stability of new passenger boarding stairs.Firstly, structure designs of variable wheelbase passenger boarding stairs are completed, ProE can be applied to build a model of variable wheelbase passenger boarding stairs which mainly include scalable underpan, rotatable stairs, removable stairs, transition platform, docking platform. The use of scalable underpan greatly improves the security of passenger boarding stairs.Secondly, a comparative analysis between a existing passenger boarding stairs and variable wheelbase passenger boarding stairs are completed. The result shows variable wheelbase passenger boarding stairs has a higher safety factor then the existing passenger boarding stairs. Relevant stress, deformation distribution of passengers boarding stairs can be obtained by the analysis of ANSYS Workbench on variable wheelbase passenger boarding stairs in static states. The result shows that the designed passengers boarding stairs' construction meet the demands of rigidity and intensity.Thirdly, a modal analysis for variable wheelbase passenger boarding stairs under two kinds of conditions are completed. Variable wheelbase passenger boarding stairs will not resonate neither by uneven ground when it is on motion state or by passengers boarding or getting off the airplane when it is on work state. Such results prove that variable wheelbase passenger boarding stairs is standard on anti-vibration.Lastly, the wind speed of critical rollover of variable wheelbase passenger boarding stairs can be calculated with theoretical calculation. Compared with specified wind speed, the critical rollover wind speed is bigger. So the variable wheelbase passenger boarding stairs is standard on wind resistance. Meanwhile, ANSYS Workbench fluid-structure interaction analysis module can be used to analyze the variable wheelbase passenger boarding stairs on whole gale. Such analysis result is the displacement diagram and stress diagram of the passenger boarding stairs, which shows that variable wheelbase passenger boarding stairs will not rollover under whole gale and the intensity meets the requirement at the same time.
