In recent years, with the grim situation about energy and environment, and the huge proportion of the building energy consumption, all the governments are putting more efforts on energy conservation and emissions reduction. With the development of building energy-saving technology, the relative building energy saving rate and the thermal performance standard limits for the main building envelope all over the world have gradually been enhanced. In order to achieve the high improvement target over the whole building energy conservation, rational and efficient use of ground source heat pumps and other renewable energy sources has become an important technical means.China has a vast territory with very different climate regions. The load characteristics of buildings in different climatic zones and under different energy efficiency standards vary widely, so as the application of the ground source heat pump system. It is of great value to study the contribution rate of GSHP in different climate zones under different energy conversation standard. For these goals, this paper established small office buildings models with 65% and 80% energy saving in severe cold regions, cold regions and hot summer and cold winter area. The paper also studied factors influencing ground source heat pump system design, and built the GSHP models in TRYSNS.Load characteristics analysis shows that for small office buildings,80% energy saving building in three climatic zones have a nearly 50% of heat drop relatively to 65% energy saving buildings. Load distribution in three climate zones are similar, which has a more uniform cooling load distribution, and more than 90% of the partial heat load rate is under 50%.In severe cold area, GSHP couldn't be used to provide all the heat and cold demand with the 1-3.5 volume rate for 65% energy saving building, and the 80% energy saving building can do that when the volume rate is less than 1. In cold area, the range of the volunme rate for 65% building is 1-2.5, for 80% is 1-3.5. In hot summer and cold winter area, the volume rate for 65% energy saving building is 1-1.5, for 80% energy saving building is 1-3.The contribution rate results indicate that, with the 3.5 volume rate, severe cold regions is not suitable to use GHSP because of the 30% and 50% contribution rate. In cold areas and hot summer and cold winter area, the contribution rate is 60%-80% for 65%energy saving building, in which GSHP couldn't be used alone. But for 80% energy saving buildings, it is more suitable to use GSHP because of the 90% and 100% contribution rate, which means only a very small auxiliary heat(cold) source is needed.
