Steel truss-ring beam is a new type of beam structure which develops from the castellated beam and the truss girder. This structure takes steel loops instead of traditional solid webs to connect flange slabs and form the new structure. It can be applied in the construction of superstructure in bridge engineering. This thesis studies the mechanical property of the new structure through the hybrid method of laboratory test and FEM (Finite Element Method) and discusses the structural measures, construction technology and engineering application. The main research work includes:(1) It develops the new model to calculate the shear deformation of this new structure on the basis of relevant computing theory of castellated beam. A new computational formula of shear deformation is presented and verified by FEM simulation. Besides, foreign design codes are used for reference to develop the "equivalent stiffness method" to instruct practical engineering application.(2) Business analytics software ABAQUS is used to form spatial and truss models of this structure. These models simulate the load condition of the experiments to calculate the structure’s ultimate bearing capacity as well as stress and strain in test points. A scaled test has been operated to verify this simulation through a bending load experiment. In order to study its stress characteristics and failure mechanism under bending load, experiment data and simulation results have been compared. Analysis of similarities and differences has also been studied to make a thorough inquiry of its internal force distribution.(3) On the basis of previous research, this thesis proposes a preliminary engineering design which including basic structure size, construction technology, etc. As the FEM simulation matches well with the test data, the scaled model has been reverted into an actual engineering design A footbridge model is made through the ABAQUS. Relevant checking calculation is accomplished according to design codes. The feasibility of this design has been verified.(4) In the previous scaled test, parts of this structure are connected by welding.
