Numerous earthquake disaster tell us that the earthquake response analysis of the structure is an effective method to reduce the earthquake disaster. The seismic safety of frame structure is very important to the public life and property safety, the seismic analysis and design is taken seriously by countries in the world. To study whether wave passage effect should be considered in the seismic responses of frame structures or not, and study the influence of seismic wave frequency on wave passage effect of plane frame. The two research objects in this paper picked up from a school and a market. The first is a three-span, six-story reinforced concrete structure and the other is a fivespan, six-story reinforced concrete plane frame structure. The seismic records we used are downloaded from PEER database of the United States Geological Survey, which were classified into four categories by different shear velocity of soil, and each site has 20 seismic records. We use the software MIDAS/GEN to calculate the seismic response by applying uniform excitation and traveling wave. So the time-history curve of the shear force of maximum shear force, the shear force of bottom column which facing the seismic wave and the maximum displacement of the column under uniform excitation and wave passage excitation can be printed. According to the time-history curve, the site class III and IV seismic waves can be classified according to whether the seismic wave has wave passage effect. And analyze the two groups of seismic waves by frequency analysis. The study indicates that, the three-span, six-layer and the five-span, six-layer reinforced concrete plane frame structure have obvious wave passage effect at site class III and IV. And the force of bottom column which facing the seismic wave increase obviously under uniform excitation. For the seismic waves with wave passage effect at site class III and IV, the main peaks of frequency amplitude spectrum of seismic wave arise in low frequency domain.
