With the rapid development of DC power transmission, the insulation of high-voltage power equipment will become more prominent. In high-voltage power equipment, the insulating medium epoxy resin plays an important role, and once the insulation is damaged, it may lead to the occurrence of short-circuit, power outages and other accidents. The DC surface flashover characteristics of epoxy resin are different under different conditions, and the influence of surface flashover on surface morphology of epoxy resin is different under different conditions. Therefore, the research on the DC surface flashover characteristics of epoxy resin and the influence of surface flashover on the surface morphology of epoxy resin under different conditions have great theoretical and practical significance.Based on Hebei Province Natural Science Foundation Project ‘‘Study on Surface Properties of Epoxy Resin before and after DC Surface Flashover in SF6/N2 under High Pressure '', the experimental study of DC surface flashover in vacuum and air is conducted, and specific work is as follows:(1) This paper designed and developed a set of experimental platform for the vacuum surface flashover of epoxy resin. The experimental platform consists of vacuum system composed of vacuum chamber and vacuum unit and the surface flashover test system composed of epoxy resin sample and experimental electrodes, DC power supply and other devices, and the vacuum system is debugged.(2) The surface flashover test of epoxy resin in vacuum and air was conducted. Experiment was conducted on three kinds of electrodes with rod-rod, needle-needle and needle-plate. The relationship between the DC flashover voltage of epoxy resin and discharge distance and voltage polarity under different electrodes was compared,and the difference of the DC surface flashover characteristics of epoxy resin in vacuum and air was analyzed.(3) The surface morphology of epoxy resin was studied by means of SEM/AFM two micro observation under different surface flashover times and different electrodes. This paper pointed out that roughness characterization of surface morphology of materials is insufficient, and the surface morphology analysis method based on fractal theory was proposed.
