The bridge with transverse V-shaped piers with unequal height of columns(called as TVPB) is a new form of bridge structure. It has beautiful shape and full of rhythm, and provides a competitive bridge scheme for landscape bridge design. At present, investigations on the static and dynamic performance of this kind of bridge are relatively few in the world. By taking the Changxing harbor bridge as example, the static performance, structural stability, dynamic and seismic performance of TVPB are analyzed. The research results have a good theoretical significance and reference value for structural design of TVPB.Firstly, by using MIDAS/Civil finite element analysis software, two 3D finite element models of the Changxin harbor bridge are established respectively, one is called as beam element model in which the deck and piers are modeled by beam elements, the other one is called as the mixed element model in which the deck is modeled by beam elements and the piers are modeled by solid elements. The static performance of the bridge in the completion and construction stages is analyzed. Secondly, structural stability analysis is carried out in the completion and construction stages, the linear and nonlinear stability coefficients are obtained and compared. Finally, structural dynamic characteristics of the bridge are analyzed. Moreover, the seismic performance of the bridge is analyzed by using response spectrum method and time history analysis method respectively, the influence of analytical methods and structural modeling on the dynamic characteristics and seismic behavior of the structure is discussed.The results show that:(1) TVPB has great bearing capacity, good stress characteristics, the internal forces and stress in the pier forces for the mixing element model is slightly greater than those for beam element model;(2) TVPB has good structural stability, the buckling mode of the bridge is mainly the inclination and distortion of the piers along the longitudinal bridge axis, and the nonlinear stability coefficient is slightly lower than the linear stability coefficient;(3) TVPB has great natural frequency and also structural rigidity, and the natural frequency of the mixed element model is slightly less than that of the beam element model;(4) Under the longitudinal and transverse seismic actions, TVPB has greater structural seismic response, the results of time history analysis are slightly greater than those of the response spectrum analysis. The seismic response of beam element model and mixed element model are basically consistent;(5)TVPB has good static performance and structural stability, great structural stiffness and good seismic performance, and therefore becomes a kind of bridge structures with favorable mechanical performance.
