At present, although the development of traditional vehicles are restricted and new energy vehicles are focused on, the development of car cover parts and auto model shouldn't be underestimated in the automobile industry. NC machining occupies the dominant position in industrial production and the complex shape of parts and mold processing depends on NC machining.The process is quite time consuming. High quality of NC machining tool path plays an important role in reducing machining time and improving machining quality. With regard to the the presence of scattered, overlap and trajectory smoothness in multi axis NC machining tool path design methods. In this paper, we propose a vector method used for five axis NC machining tool path optimization on the basis of stream function composed of B spline basis functions.Based on the given point cloud data, the optimization of tool path is carried out in the parameter domain. Firstly, the interpolation method is used to reconstruct the free-form surface, and then the 3D curved surface is sampled uniformly to form a discrete data point and calculate the optimized cutter path's direction of every sampling point.Then, the tool path planning is carried out in the parameter domain. Including the expression of the direction of the cutter path in the parameter domain, making out the cutter path model in the parameter field using the vector field approximation and the method of selecting the parameters in the parameter space based on flow function. Finally, the trajectory of the parameter domain is mapped onto the original surface, which forms the cutter contact path of the original machining curved surface. According to tool parameters selected above,the tool contact path is biased to form trajectory of cutter location points and export the generated file in order to facilitate the NX simulation of NC machining.The whole algorithm process is based on the VS2010 software, using C++, OpenGL, MFC, etc. In this paper,the calculation model is established by flat bottomed cutter, deducing the calculation formula of effective processing contour,calculating the value of stream function and contour line and resulting in the generation of the tool path.In addition,NC machining simulation is carried out based on NX CAM. The results show that the tool path trajectory which is planned by the vector method is smooth, continuous and orderly.
