In today's military and civilian fields, helicopters play an irreplaceable role. Military helicopters have been widely used in the reconnaissance, attack, transport, communications and command and other aspects of the battlefield in the military area. On the other hand, civil helicopters also play an important role in the medical care, emergency rescue, lifting equipment, forest fire-fighting and so on. However, due to the design and application conditions, the helicopter accident rate is much higher than fixed-wing aircraft. Therefore, how to improve the situational awareness ability of helicopter operator and to protect the helicopter flight safety have become a major issue.This paper firstly introduces the helicopter's flight characteristics and the degraded visual environments problem faced by helicopters in all phases of flight, and thus leads to the introduction of enhanced synthetic vision system avionics solutions, introducing the related technical concepts and features, such as enhanced vision system and synthetic vision system. Then we summarize the progress of the project and the research results at home and abroad enhanced synthetic vision system in terms of degraded visual environments, and determine to modele and simulation the enhanced synthetic vision by means of visual simulation technology, mainly to complete the following several aspects of the work:1. Enhanced synthetic vision systems and related technologies are analyzed and studied. Firstly, the architecture and functionality of enhanced synthetic vision systems are analyzed. Secondly, the role and imaging characteristics of common airborne sensors are summarized, and multi-sensor data fusion technology is introduced. Finally, other key technologies are also described, such as terrain awareness and warning technology, obstacles perception and highlighting techniques, instrumentation and symbol display technology.2. The technology of visual simulation is studied. Firstly, according to the demand for enhanced synthetic vision simulation systems, the development process of the visual simulation system is introduced. Secondly, the visual simulation database is studied, and the characteristics and creation process of visual database are introduced. The preliminary work of simulation is completed, such as creation of three-dimensional solid and three-dimensional terrain models, as well as design and modeling of the virtual flight instruments, information display panels and system control panel.3. The key technologies of enhanced synthetic vision systems are analyzed and studied. Firstly, the technology roadmap of enhanced synthetic vision simulation system is introduced. Secondly, the implementation of degraded visual environments and imaging sensors simulation are studied. Finally, design and implementation of some key elements of terrain warning systems are researched, including terrain database display processing, obstacle perception and highlight processing, flight trajectory draw and regional threat warning display.4. The overall design and implementation of the system are researced. Firstly, design ideas of integrated demonstration platform for enhanced synthetic vision system are introduced. Secondly, the design and implementation of the main function module are overviewed,Finally, the all-round display enhanced synthetic vision system features are showed by introducing the architecture, display layout, operating mode and pperation display of the integrated demonstration system.
