Currently, grooved coupling connection are very popular in piping system. It does not need to weld, thread and just use two sets of hardware when assembling. It can avoid welding process and tedious assembly process of traditional flange connection. And it also provide a new method for larger pipe diameter which can't make thread. Grooved pipe connection are most applied in fire protection pipe system, and the largest pipe diameter is over 200mm and maximum rated pressure is over 2.5MPa. But the welding and flange connection are used for the larger pipe diameter piping system, which can't avoid welding process yet. The paper mainly focus on design of the joint for larger diameter pipe in mining system. And provide a more rapid, convenience and economic connection method.This paper includes coupling housing design and strength analysis, coupling gasket design and sealing performance analysis, hardware choose and verification. From the standpoint of engineering product design, and combination of mechanical design, structural mechanics, gasket rubber properties and Finite Element Analysis to finish the design of product. Finally, qualified the product by performing tests, which can ensure the safety of the product.Via learning the development history, experience of larger diameter high pressure coupling at home and abroad, author design the grooved high pressure coupling without any welding process. Grooved coupling effectively solved the inconvenience of the traditional welding flanges and butt welding. It can be easily assembled in the small, unventilated, fire forbidden place in mining industry. In this way, it can successfully solve the problem of pipe connection in mining industry. During the design period, not only use the traditional method of calculation and test, but also applied FEA technology. In this way, it can help to save the design time and cost as well as avoid to trial many times. Additionally, the final test result can guarantee the product safety, and also will provide the evidence of the accuracy of FEA. That will help future designer to understand the FEA much better.
