With the continuous intensifying of vehicle market, stricter demands have been proposed in the development cycle, development cost and manufacturing cost of vehicle, leading to more rigorous requirements for the quality of stamping parts which deeply influences the development progress of vehicle. The higher fluency of vehicle body also results in more complex curvature radius of the stamping parts. Therefore, the continuously promotion of mold development quality is urgently requested.The application of finite element numerical simulation method (FEM) can greatly improve the efficiency and quality of the mold development, and accelerate the development process of the whole vehicle. In this paper, the mounting plate, as one of the typical stamping parts, was optimally designed based on the commercial software-AutoForm, and the field experiments were carried out for evaluation.Development process of the vehicle stamping mold and the development of the finite element technology were summarized here, the basic flow and key technology of finite element simulation of stamping parts were also introduced. According to the preliminarily determined stamping technology of taillights mounted plates, the finite element model is established and used in the numerical simulation of the drawing process, the trimming and punching process, the trimming and punching cutting process, the edge and hole flanging process and the flanging process and the optimal process parameters, including the drawing process increased piercing process. The parameters were optimized and the puncture technology was added in the drawing process. The whole process map of product was drawn and the 3D modeling of mold in the whole process was completed.Based on the simulation results, the design and manufacture of the tail lamp mounting plate mold was completed, and the stamping parameters of the product were determined. The parameters of puncture height of drawing process, blank holder force, holding stroke, forming force, mold installation height etc. were site verified, the different blank holder and forming forces were set and the optimal parameters of drawing process were determined through the measurement different product states under various conditions. The experimental results of model height and technology of the trimming and punching process, the trimming and punching cutting process, the edge and hole flanging process and the flanging process were respectively compared with the numerical simulation results, thus the technology parameters of whole process were determined. The comparison of product structures between similar products in different vehicle types was also conducted and the improving suggestions were proposed.The results show that the finite element simulation model was highly accurate except the parameter of expansion size of material, the product reaction to blank holder force was not sensitive when products were manufactured using hydraulic press and the impact of forming force on forming process and product quality could be ignored when its value exceeded the base forming force.
