The aim of this research is to get lots of useful data through a comparative analysis of Korea and China's multifamily housing patterns. Although Korea and China belong to the common culture in Asia, however, due to different life styles and building techniques, there are many different types of housing characteristics and building types. Through this research, we aim at grasping the features of apartment building types in these two countries, so as to help them enter Chinese apartment building market. The objective of analysis is these apartment buildings which was building or have been built in South Korea and China from 2000 to 2010. Constructions are divided into three categories: slab blocks, point blocks and hybrid buildings. First of all, this paper analyzes the quantity of each building type and compares the proportion each type accounts for. Then, it classifies the internal circulation system and through the analysis of each type finds out the differences between two countries' apartment building features. At the meantime, it draws a comparison of quantities and types of planned apartments in each country. Through these analyses, we can learn the differences between South Korea and China's apartment buildings in the future. 1) The entrance and the living room are separated in South Korea, while they are one in China. 2) As to connection method, it is L-DK type in South Korea, and LD-Ktype in China. 3) In the constituting way of plan, South Korea and China are different in porch + living room, dispersed layout and bedroom + bathroom layout etc.. 4) The manner in public bathrooms and private bathroom, separate layout is more in China than in South Korea. 5) There are lots of slab blocks in Korea, while in China, more hybrid buildings are emerged frequently. 6) Compared with Korea, China's apartment is planning for more numbers of unit are incorporated into one centre. 7) Compared with Korea, China's planning types of apartment unit are more diversified. 8) The shape of Chinese apartments is the horizontal direction is longer than the vertical direction, and there are lots of projection and depression.
