Through the investigation on three-wheeler industry, a rapid development is seen in three-wheeler, 150% increase in 5 years, by 30% a year on average. The same as the fast growth, people s request on quality is also keeping growing, which requires three-wheeler companies to enhance product quality.200m L water-cooling engine, as important component of three-wheeler category, has been confronted with many problems, such as power shortage, engine oil burning, high fuel consumption, and scuffing of cylinder bore. These problems are mostly caused from abnormal wear and tear of the piston rings. The paper is based on the market investigation, to find the factors that affect performance and endurance of the piston ring, further to obtain the improvement of certain engine components, and enhancement of engine power. Then upon the study of height of piston ring, materials, close gap between first ring and second ring, and CKS surface treatment, the paper aims at improving performance and endurance of the piston ring. Through the above process, the final purpose is to design the suitable piston ring to meet requirements of three-wheeler at the present stage.This paper aims at following subjects:1. Investigation on three-wheeler market, and failure analysis of piston rings.2. Improvement on some other engine components, to ensure its performance and endurance.3. Parameter design of piston ring, and analysis of material and heat treatment.4. Bench test on performance and endurance, road test, verification of the design results.By bench test on performance and endurance, and test of road simulation and comparison, the results testify the conclusion of the paper, while the designed piston ring are meeting the requirements of 200 m L water cooling three-wheeler at the present stage of market.
