There are a huge number of circuit breakers in power grid. Their failure may cause serious economic losses and social losses. More than 70% failures of the circuit breaker are mechanical characteristics; therefore, the study mechanical characteristics of circuit breaker detection technology have great significance.This paper proposes a method to detect circuit breaker mechanical characteristics by using high-speed camera, and verifies the feasibility of the method, and establishes a test system of circuit breaker mechanical characteristics by using High-Speed camera, the hardware test system mainly consists high-speed cameras, fill lights, marker etc. This paper gives us the definition of detection index and develops a detection software system, and simulates three typical early failure fault of circuit breakers, and Extracts its fault features, and Proposes a corresponding pattern recognition method. A field test for the mechanical characteristics of typical circuit breaker verified the applicability of using cameras method to detect mechanical properties of circuit breakers.The results show that:The measuring error for the establishment of the trip detection system is less than 1%; According to travel-time, speed-time curve characteristics, digital camera method can realize an early identification of circuit breaker mechanical failure; body shell boxes are the main factors affecting of the camera method for on-site measurement of law breaker mechanical characteristics.
