Tank shell is a typical pressure vessel. The difficulty of design, manufacturing, assembly and heat treatment increased with the increase in volume. With the continuous development of computer technology applications, finite element analysis and design has been widely used in engineering. Finite element analysis techniques can be more accurately and intuitively to reflect the non-linear stress distribution, to facilitate structural optimization, so that the design of large spherical tank can be more reasonable. Compared with other pressure vessel, spherical pressure vessel has many advantages, such as small footprint, the forces, high pressure capability, on-site installation, easy to transport. Tank technology development direction of domestic and foreign is high-parameter and large-scale. Large-scale tank can reduce the storage capacity per unit volume of investment, saving land, and save the cost of auxiliary facilities, while easy to manage. Tank is complicated by the load, in most cases, it is under the combined effects of multiple loads. It is impossible to analyze and simulate the spherical tank in the test load conditions,so use the analysis software for a large steel tank to analyze and simulate.Firstly, through the study and discussion of the relevant literature, based on the cost of large steel storage tank is relatively high, suffered relatively complex loads, safety and reliability factors to be considered more complex, results the finite element analysis about the large steel tank is very important. Secondly, to calculate and check the strength of 20000m3 large vacuum tank, and give a brief introduction to finite element theory and analysis software ANSYS. Besides, we also use ANSYS software for modeling, to apply the load, and then analyze the impact of various loads on stress and deformation of steel tank. In the modeling process, we use the specific parameters function of ANSYS software to perform parametric solid modeling of the tank, and operate to the parametric models for steel storage tank. In this way we can achieve the results of a multiple benefit modeling. Then limited the element mesh by using the free meshing approach and using combination of local mesh. Finally, we got the result of stress and deformation for the tank, it is under the gravity loads, the maximum operating outside pressure, seismic load, wind load, snow load, working conditions and the impact of a combination of stress and deformation of the tank. And we compared a part of the result between the data obtained through simulation and theoretical calculations which is by the GB12337-1998 requirements of the relevant standards and to calculate the stress and deformation of the tank. It is further proof of using ANSYS software for large tank for rapid and accurate stress analysis.
