The Wenchuan earthquake leveled a huge number of school buildings, causing grave casualties among the student, which is a tragic lesson for us. In 2009, the State Council initiated Campus Security Project in Elementary School and High School to take aseismic strengthening measures in school buildings and to improve the comprehensive ability of disaster prevention.As of 2001, the seismic fortification intensity in Kunshan is 6, and it was raised to 7 after 2001. After the Wenchuan earthquake happened, it was requested that the school buildings in elementary school and high school be designed as key fortification type. However, the aseismic strengthening activity on school buildings in Kunshan encountered lots of difficulties, such as, much higher standard against the structure of the school buildings and deficiencies in strength of the materials and construction quality.According to the current state standard and regulation, this paper studies and summarizes the basic procedure and applicable method of aseismic identification and strengthening design through investigation, statistics and analysis on the aseismic identification and strengthening design of the school buildings in Kunshan. In particular, this paper discusses how a higher seismic fortification intensity level and type affected the aseismic strengthening design. This paper focuses on: summarizing the lesson from the prejudice brought by the earthquake and the basic guidance to aseismic strengthening design by analyzing the damages to the school buildings during the Wenchuan earthquake; discussing the method of aseismic identification applied to the school buildings and summarizing the key points of school buildings aseismic identification applicable to Kunshan; discussing the method of aseismic strengthening applied to the school buildings and summarizing the major technical measures on school buildings aseismic strengthening applicable to Kunshan; analyzing seismic defects generally found in the school buildings in Kunshan, providing specific strengthening design and studying the strengthening method of reinforcing mesh cement mortar and concrete wall.This text selects a representative building as an example that elaborates the specific methods and steps of aseismic identification and carries out the checking calculation of comprehensive shock resistance index on the basis of 6 degrees and 7 degrees respectively, and then compares the results and analyzes how the increase of seismic fortification intensity impacted the building aseismic reinforcement, summarizing a simple, convenient, economic and reasonable aseismic strengthening method which is suitable for the project by comparing the different strengthening methods. At last, some simple, efficient and practical measures should be put forward to strengthen the school buildings in Kunshan, and the future research direction should be expounded and prospected.
