In this paper, the research of series arc fault has been launched. This paper studies the characteristics of series arc fault and looks for effective methods to detect, which has great significance to ensure the safe operation of power system stability and improve the quality of power supply.In this paper, the comprehensive experiment of arcing fault device is developed, launched on the linear and nonlinear loads of experimental work, collected a large number of experimental data and create a database of arc fault.By analyzing the experimental data and extracting the linear and nonlinear loads in the case of series arc fault current features. According to the typical characteristics of arc fault current linear load-"zero" phenomenon, based on grid fractal theory, using the mathematical statistics method,and extracting the fault arc current rate characteristic, complete the linear load series arc fault diagnosis; Nonlinear load arc fault contains high frequency harmonic current, by using the theory of wavelet analysis, and extracting the fault current signal characteristics of fractal theory to detail with mesh signal fluctuation value is calculated, the indirect extracting high-frequency harmonic content, complete the arc fault diagnosis of nonlinear load. Finally the established diagnostic method are verified, the results show that the algorithm can implement fault diagnosis accurately.
