This paper takes the Eight Treasures in Tibetan Buddhism as research object. The literature relating to the Eight Treasures is analyzed, concluded and summed up to discover the artistic feature of the Eight Treasures. Besides, a survey of temple scenic spot in Xi'ning has been carried out to figure out the constraint factors for the local tourism. Based on the problem and insufficiency in the Buddhism tourism development, the idea of derivative design is pointed out. By combing with new media, a different platform is built up for derivative. Specifically, the design includes mobile phone shell derivative design, clothing derivative design, packing innovation design, website design and two-dimension animation design. What's more, feasible advice for the development of derivative of the Eight Treasures is given.Through literature analysis and comparative research, the artistic expression feature of the Eight Treasures in Tibetan Buddhism is concluded. The main factor that hinders the tourism development and cultural communication of Tibetan Buddhism is figured out by a practical survey of tourist and lay Buddhist in Tibetan Buddhism temple. Status quo of local folk artistic works and local successful cases of brand building are analyzed to propose derivative design with the help of new form and new media. As for specific derivative design,the target audience of the Eight Treasures is clarified; a new carrier whose visual design meets popular aesthetic requirement and whose derivative design innovation satisfies multi-layer consumption demand and communication media is employed; multi sales channels like realistic shop, online shop, APP, etc are pointed out; brand promotion and communication measures should include theme activity in cultural festival, new carrier,Internet media, social network media and mobile media, etc.Catering to the development demand of the times, a methodology that derivative meeting market consumption demand should be designed is pointed out. The design exploration for the core factors of Tibetan Buddhism tourism product development and the exploration for the design innovation of derivative design, carrier innovation, the R&P ofbrand APP is carried out. These design explorations verifies the feasibility of the thought and method to apply new media to brand building. It is hoped that the research in this paper may be of appreciation significance for the development of the industry and may promote the development of modern design in China.
