Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer, abbreviated as GFRP, is a new type of engineering material with well mechanical performance and durability. In this paper, the box with a groove of GFRP profiles placed in the bottom of the tension zone, while the concrete placed in the upper part of web and flange plate position of the beam, this two connected by a special connection to form of a new GFRP-concrete composite beams to make full use of good tensile properties of GFRP and good compression performance of concrete. According to the test, the shear performance was studied and the local strengthening method against the stress concentration on the ends of the GFRP-concrete composite beams was studied furthermore. On the basis of tests, the shear resistant mechanism of the beams with local strengthening and without local strengthening were analyzed respectively, and the coresponding calculation methods and the calculation formula of shear capacity were deduced. In the tests, shear performance of six GFRP-concrete composite beams which included three with local strenghening and three without it was tested in total, mainly studying the shear behavior of the cracks development law, the failure characteristics of shear, shearing bearing capacity, interfacial slip, overall deformation of the composite beam specimens under the different shear-span ratio. Meanwhile, combining the load-deflection curves in midspan and the load- principal stress curve of the GFRP profiles, concrete webs, strengthened steel, the shear resistance mechanism and shear behavior of GFRP-concrete composite beams were analyzed deeply. On the basis of tests results, the calculation methods and the calculation formula of shear capacity were deduced. The calculated results were well agreed with the tests data, which indicated that the formula could be applied for the analysis and the design of the practical engineering.
