Rapid prototyping technology was developed at the end of the eighties of twentieth century. The technology has been improved a lot until now. FDM(Fused Deposition Modeling) is one of the rapid prototyping technologies. It has many advantages such as inexpensive, easy to be polished, very smart and environmental protection, which is widely used in developing new product, rapid mold manufacturing, design and development of medical devices, making prototype of human organs and so on.For above advantage, it is very important to designing a perfect FDM rapid prototyping machine and take researches on the limited factors of the lower accuracy and intensity parts on FDM.This paper analyzes various factors that affect accuracy of the entire FDM process on aspects of fundamental error and molding process errors and post-processing errors and the mathematical model of the prototype warp deformation is constructed, putting forward countermeasures and providing guidance for subsequent forming piece precision analysis.Secondly, the mechanical structure of the FDM rapid prototyping machine is designed, processed and assembled and the testing machine could be produced. FDM rapid prototyping machine control system with “PC + programmable motion controller” is developed in order to realize the motion control of the FDM rapid prototyping machine.Meanwhile, many types of scanning path for FDM processes are analyzed, a new scanning path complex Sub-regional offset with its planning algorithm is proposed.Finally, the author accomplishes the orthogonal test in which the author utilizes the FDM rapid prototyping machine as the trail platform, exploits the buckling deformations of the manufacturing parts as the measurement indicators, aims at the major process parameters and scanning path during the modeling process to design the test specimen. The influence level of each factor in the FDM process is studied.
