The pulse generator rectifier power system is one of the most important power supply schemes of the high pulsed magnetic field device. The characteristics of the pulse generator rectifier power system are analyzed. This analyses point out that the existence of the phase-controlled rectifier and magnet load would bring large amounts of reactive power and harmonic to the system AC side. Then the influence of reactive power and harmonic of the pulse generator rectifier power system is analyzed. In order to compensate the reactive power and harmonic, three reactive power and harmonic compensation schemes are analyzed. Then this paper puts forward a reactive power and harmonic mixed compensation which is made up by the multi-module static var generators’ parallel and multi-group single-tuned filters which is cut in and cut out at different time. The mixed reactive power and harmonic compensation scheme is suitable for reducing the reactive power and harmonic, without the over compensation phenomenon, has better compensation effect, has a faster compensation speed, is more flexible and economical, and also can adapt to frequency offset situation of the pulse generator.According to the pulse generator rectifier power supply system for WHMFC, the mathematical model of mixed reactive power and harmonic compensation scheme is established, the groups’ number and the each group’s capacity of the single-tuned filter are discussed, and the control modes of the multi-module static var generators’ parallel are selected. Then the control strategy of mixed reactive power and harmonic compensation of the pulse generator rectifier power system is proposed. The parameters of single-tuned filter and static var generator are selected. Then, in view of the mixed compensation mode, this paper respectively establish mixed reactive power and harmonic compensation simulation modes of 50 T magnetic dual-coil and 100 T magnetic outside-coil of the pulse generator rectifier power system in the Matlab/Simulink environment. The mixed compensation scheme is simulated. At last, the feasibility of the mixed reactive power and harmonic compensation scheme is verified through the analysis of simulation results.In order to carry out a better research of the mixed reactive power and harmonic compensation of the pulse generator rectifier power system, a static var generator system’s topology and control implementation are designed. The detailed hardware and software design process of the static var generator is given. According to the hardware and software design, this paper designs a static var generator device. Then the static var generator device is carried on experimental study, and the results of the experiment show that static var generator can be good for reactive power compensation.
