To solve t he exist ing problems in co mmon sandw ic h insulat ion wa ll syste ms, a new type of concrete sandwic h insulat io n shear wall is suggested. The sandw ich insulat io n shear wall is cons isted of inter ior reinforcement concrete layer, ins ulat ion laye r, exter ior concrete layer and connector. The ins ulat ion la yer is provided wit h holes. The pour ing concrete flows through the holes of insulat io n layer and for ms concrete short columns. C oncrete short columns connect concrete layers on both s ides, so that the y work together under the vertica l and hor izonta l loading. Bes ides, the heat insulat io n slices made of rubber are used to cut the t her mal brid ge of connectors to achie ve good energy- saving effect. The new sandw ic h shear wa ll can meet t he design request of energy- saving and load- bearing. The compressive- fle xura l perfor mance of three concrete sandw ich insulat io n shear wa lls under vert ical a nd hor izo ntal load ing were tested. Finite e le ment ana lys is software ABAQ US was used to build models of specime ns, and the test process was simulated. An opt ima l design o f connectors is made to simp lify the constr uct ion operation, and tests of fifteen specimens were used to investi gate the new kind connectors’ shear bearing capacity. The results of the compressive- fle xura l tests indicated that all three specime ns tend flexura l fa ilure under vert ical and hor izo nta l loading(the axial compress ion ratio is 0.1), and the ma in parameters of specime ns ha ve no effect on specimens ’ compress ive- flexura l behavior and capacit y. The concrete layers on both s ides of the sandwic h wall work collaborative ly. C urrent code for mulas of s hear walls can be used to calculate the compressive- flexural capacity of specime ns.The simulat ion ana lys is results meet the tests ’ results quite well on load- placeme nt curves, fa ilure pattern and load-carrying capacit y. Further stud y about vario us effect para meters ind icated that the flexura l capacit y of sandwic h walls increase w ith t he increasing of the concrete strengt h and the axia l compressio n ratio and the strengt h of vert ica l distr ibut ion re inforceme nt. Relat ive ly, the la yout of connectors and the strength of horizonta l distr ib ut ion reinforceme nt have litt le effect on the sandwich shear walls’ flexural capacit y.In order to reduce the diffic ult y of constr uct ion, method of sprayed- mortar was used to form the exter ior layers instead of poured- concrete. Besides, the walls’ and connectors’ construct io n method was also changed. The results of connectors’ shear capacity tests ind icated that the mortar short column of the c onnector ’s take the ma in shear loading when the contact sur face s slid ing. The connectors’ shear capacit y can meet the requirement of engineering design. The conclus ions ma y be used in designing t he concrete sandw ich ins ulat ion shear walls.
