Polyethylene terephthalate(PET)is widely used in food packaging,films,fibers,and electrical insulation materials.Because of its advantages such as non-toxic,tasteless,light weight,and low price,etc.,it has been widely used as packaging materials in packaging industry.It has mostly replaced the packaging products that used to be made by glass.However,the advantages of PET are usually the disadvantages when PET becomes a waste material.The excellent stability of PET leads to impossible degradation in nature.The huge amount of waste PET has become a serious pollution for environment.Thus,the recycle and reuse of waste PET has been a key point in research.In this research,the degradation of waste PET has been studied via urea alcoholysis process.Various kinds of dihydric alcohol,different temperatures,waste PET and catalysts were employed to prepare different PET degradation products,which we called GOP in this research.The optimal preparation conditions were explored by the analysis of FTIR,GPC,DSC and TG,etc.According to the results,GOP consists of two components at least,except for the GOP sample degraded by PPG.When PPG was used as alcoholysis agent,there is just one degradable product.According to the TG result,the productivity of it can be 98%.Meanwhile,during the degradation process,the bis-2-hydroxyethyl terephthalate(BHET)monomer is one of the main components in GOP products.
