Abstract/Summary:
Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE)fibers possess extraordinary physical and mechanical properties:low specific gravity,high modulus,high strength,high impact resistance,high abrasion tolerance,excellent chemical resistance,low dielectric constant,good UV resistance,low coefficient of friction and self-lubricating properties.Despite the impressive list of properties,UHMWPE fibers also have limitations.Due to their chemical inertness and lack of functional groups,UHMWPE fibers are difficult to bond to most materials,which makes it difficult to produce UHMWPE fiber reinforced polymeric composites,at the same time,its high melt viscosity and low critical shear rate which limit its practical application,So it has a high theoretical and practical value to Improve its performance without sacrificing its excellent performance.There are several ways to overcome the obstacle by means of modify the UHMWPE,in this paper,we used Tegomer? E525 to modified the mechanical properties and flow properties of the UHMWPE,Anther way to circumvent the problem is making composites,we had made UHMWPE/CNTs composites,UHMWPE/LDPE composites and UHMWPE/PA composites,also studied these composites by means of Differential Scanning Calorimetry(DSC)、X-ray diffraction(XRD)、Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM)、Electro-mechanical Universal Testing Machines and High-pressure capillary rheometer,The results indicated that:(1)when added Tegomer? E525 at an amount of 10wt%,The tensile strength of UHMWPE could reach50.294 MPa,22.70%higher than that of the pure UHMWPE,The elastic modulus of the UHMWPE could reache 240.91 MPa,Maximum strain reache355.36%.(2)for UHMWPE/CNTs composites,when the amount of CNTs is 3wt%,the tensile strength of the material could readch 28.02 MPa,weaker than that of pure UHMWPE tensile strength,may be due to E525 and CNTs added simultaneously,resulted in poor adhesion molecules.(3)for UHMWPE/LDPE composites,when added 10wt%LDPE,the tensile strengthof the composites is 21 MPa,and the elastic modulus and the Maximum strainof the composite material is also maximized.(4)for UHMWPE/PA6 composites,when the mass fraction of PA6 reache 5wt%,the maximum tensile strength of the material could reach 26.60 MPa.
