In the rapidly growing field of the organic functional materials,organic third-order nonlinear optical materials are at the forefront of research activities.These materials have numerous applications,such as optical fiber communication,optical computing,optical data storage,laser medical treatment,laser weapon and so on.Molecular design and synthesis of the two series of six asymmetric metal polypyridine complexes and six symmetrical metal polypyridine complexes,9 of which were not reported.The methods of synthesis and purification were studied emphatically.A series of 7 2-substituted-1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline ligands were prepared from 1,10-Phenanthroline-5,6-dione by the condensation reaction with aldehydes.Their structures were confirmed by UV and 1H NMR.The yields of conductor were21.0%74.3%.The intermediate product 1,10-Phenanthroline-5,6-dione was prepared from1,10-Phenanthroline by the oxidation reaction.A series of 6 asymmetric metal polypyridine complexes were prepared from1,10-phenanthroline or 2,2'-bipyridine by the one-pot complexation reaction with NiCl2·6H2O,then 2-substituted-1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline ligands.Their structures were confirmed by UV,ESI-MS and elemental analysis.The yields of conductor were 13.3%35.5%.A series of 6 symmetrical metal polypyridine complexes were prepared from NiCl2·6H2O by the one-pot complexation reaction with 2-substituted-1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline ligands.Their structures were confirmed by UV,ESI-MS and elemental analysis.The yields of conductor were 24.1%37.9%.
