Acrylic thickener has been widely used in textile,printing,water-based coatings,ink,paper,chemical and other industries due to the small dosage,obvious thickening effect,no pollution and environmental protection features,more and more attention has been paid to it.With the increasing demand of the market,the quality requirements of the thickeners are getting higher and higher.Therefore,scholars pay more and more attention to the research,development and application of thickeners.Methacrylic acid(MAA),ethyl acrylate(EA),methyl methacrylate(MMA),MBA as the main monomer,the thickening emulsion was synthesized by monomer dropping process.The effects of reaction temperature,stirring speed,type and dosage of emulsifier and monomers and other conditions were investigated on the stability of the non-associative thickening emulsion.On this foundation,The functional monomer BEM was introduced to prepare the associative acrylic thickener emulsion.The effects of BEM amount,pH,rotation rate,time on viscosity,transmittance,particle size,glass transition temperature,and rheological properties of thickening system were investigated.To discuss its rheological property,curve of thickener system's rheological properties with BEM content and pH value was simulated.the thickening effect of thickening system was discussed from the view of phase transformation.The results show that when the reaction temperature is 85?,stirring rate is 300r/min,the best type of emulsifier is 2A1/NP-10,the dosage of emulsifier is 1.6%,MAA dosage is 40%,the ratio of MMA/EA is 0.5,the cross-linking monomer is MBA and the dosage of MBA is 0.5%,the stability of non associative thickener emulsion is the best,the thickening effect is best.The thickening effect of the associative thickener was much better than that of the non associative thickener emulsion.When the dosage of BEM was 5%,the thickening effect of associative thickening system was the best.When the pH value was 7.5?9,the rheological behavior of the thickening system was in accordance with the power law equation.When the pH value is 7,the phase transition appears clearly in the thickening system,the transmittance is the biggest,and the pseudo plasticity of thickening system is the most obvious.
