The electrochemical mechanism of CeCl3,GdCl3 and NdCl3 were studied in ionic liquids.The electrochemical behaviors of Ce?III?,Gd?III?and Nd?III?ions were investigated on Pt and GC electrodes in bmimCl and bmim BF4 ionic liquids.The films contained cerium,gadolinium and neodymium element were obtained by potentiostatic deposition,respectively.?1?At 363K,the electrochemical behaviors of Ce?III?ion in bmimBF4 and bmimCl were studied by cyclic voltammetry,square wave voltammetry and chronopotentiometry at Pt and GC electrodes.The diffusion coefficient and activation energy of diffusion etc kinetics properties of reaction of Ce?III?were determined.The Ce?III?could be reducted to Ce?II?in both bmimBF4and bmimCl at Pt electrode and Ce?0?in bmimBF4 at GC electrode.In addition,the CeCl3?s?could react with a mass of Cl-from bmimCl to form[CeCl6]3-,then be oxidated to[CeCl6]2-.The films contain cerium was obtained by potentiostatic deposition the surface of Cu electrode.The surface topography and element content of film were showed by SEM micrographs and EDS analysis.?2?At 363K,the electrochemical behaviors of GdCl3 in bmimBF4 and bmimCl were studied by cyclic voltammetry,chronopotentiometry,and Chronoamperometry at the work electrodes of Pt and GC.The reduction potention of Gd?III?were-0.35V and-0.52V in bmimBF4 and bmimCl at Pt electrode.However,the Gd?III?only can be reducted to Gd?0?in bmim BF4 at the GC as work electrode.The diffusion coefficient and activation energy of diffusion etc data of Gd?III?were determined.A film containing of gadolinium element was obtained by potentiostatic deposition.?3?At 363K,the electrochemical behavior of Nd?III?was studied at Pt electrode.The reduction potention of Nd?III?in bmimBF4 were determined by cyclic voltammetry and chronopotentiometry.The electrochemical behavior of NdCl3 in bmimCl was studied at Pt electrode.The reduction potention of Nd?III?in bmimCl were determined by cyclic voltammetry,and the reduction of Nd?III?to Nd?II?was at-0.4V.The diffusion coefficients and activation energy of diffusion of Nd?III?in bmimCl and bmimBF4 ionic liquids were determined,and the electrodeposition of neodymium element was explored at copper electrode.
