During the exploitation of the deep coal mining recently, water disaster has become an important factor influencing the coal mine safety. Based on the precise understanding of the geological conditions of the aquifer, which mainly gains from drilling accurate prospecting,preventing and treating methods could be drawn. The traditional rotary drilling, which has negative factors during the prospecting, such as uncontrolled trajectory, short drilling depth,short prospecting distance, low accuracy of prospecting,couldn't meet the needs of precise prospecting. Accurate prospecting method of the Ordovician limestone water disaster has become a major technical problem in coal mining.Directional drilling technology has been used in accurate prospecting of the Ordovician limestone water disaster in this paper. In order to taking advantage of directional drilling technology and improving the efficiency and reliability, studies have been carried out focus on the following aspects:1. Directional drilling process and technology in complex geological conditions.2. Selection and development of directional drilling equipment and drilling tools.3. Design and technology research on directional drilling accurate detection with Ordovician limestone water disasters.Based on the research and the filed test, the directional drilling technology and design procedure have been improved for the formation around the Ordovician limestone in this area,while a part of drilling tools suitable for this technology have been selected and developed also. The drilling problem in the the complex formation around the Ordovician limestone has been solved, while the directional drilling efficiency has been increased by 40%. The accuracy and pertinency of the prospecting has been improved via measure and adjustment while drilling with the advantage of the directional drilling. The research achievement, which meets the requirements of accurate detection of the floor of 11# coal in Sangshuping coal mine and has built the foundation of the preventing and controlling of Ordovician limestone water disasters of 3105 and following working face, could be referenced by other similar project.
