Epoxy resin(EP)are the most important class of thermosetting,articles used in engineering.Because of its outstanding advantages,such as high strength and light weight,epoxy resin is widely used as adhesives,coating,and resin matrices for advanced composites.However,due to its high degree of cross linking density and brittleness,the application of it has been largely limited.Researcher use a variety of methods to make modification to improve its performance.Nowadays we have many modification methods,but there are some problems,so we used asphalt andemulsified asphalt to modified epoxy resin in order to receive high performance asphalt-epoxy resin composite material and emulsified asphalt-epoxy resin composite material.This paper based on the different asphalt content of asphalt-epoxy resin composite material and different emulsified asphalt content of emulsified asphalt-epoxy resin composite material to study the preparation of the asphalt-epoxy resin composite material on improving mechanical and thermal properties of pure EP were investigated by mechanical test,FTIR,SEM and asphalt-epoxy resin functional group curing dynamics is researched by using Non-uniform temperature DSC method.Mechanical testing showed that toughness of asphalt modified epoxy resin has been greatly improved,impact strength is 4.81kJ/m2,improved 34.36% than epoxy resin.And its mechanical properties are greatly improved.bending strength is 63.60 MPa,improved 35.08% than epoxy resin;tensile strength is 36.83 MPa,improved 62.70% than epoxy resin;elongation is 5.68%,about increase 5.7 times with epoxy resin.But emulsified asphalt modifies epoxy resin is not obvious,impact strength at only 3.65kJ/m2,only 1.96% more than pure epoxy resin,toughening effect will be far worse than asphalt modified epoxy resin.FTIR testing shows that the join of asphalt does not introduce a new group,description of asphalt with epoxy resin does not react.SEM test showed that asphalt can increase the toughness of epoxy resin,mainly because it had “crazing” effect and “island structure” So make asphalt-epoxy resin composite material toughness improved.DSC testing showed that the model established could describe the curing reaction process of asphalt-epoxy resin composite material,and the addition of asphalt without changing the mechanism of curing of epoxy resin,the curing processing was determined as cured at 130 oC for two hours,then cured at 160 oC for three hours,for curing of asphalt/epoxy resin/anhydride system,provides a theoretical basis for the performance tests,and provide a theoretical basis for asphalt modified epoxy resin study.
